Coal Polygeneration Technologies Lab
The Coal Polygeneration Technologies Lab (CPTL) is focused on polygeneration of chemical feed stocks or liquid fuels from coal. Working in conjunction with other GE Global Research labs, the CPTL team addresses advanced gasification technologies, syngas clean-up processes, and polygen system analysis and optimization – all of which will enable solutions to make the best of coal as a stable and green energy resource and base chemical.
Functional Materials Lab
The Functional Materials Lab is working on cutting-edge materials science and technology. A group of highly talented physicist, chemists and materials scientists are exploring and creating new materials, which could have a fundamental impact on the worlds of medical imaging, oil exploration, homeland security, fiber optic communication and more.

The Materials Characterization Lab is an integral part of GE Global Research in Shanghai. Fifteen engineers and scientists work on virtual teams with global counterparts in areas, such as chemistry, materials and manufacturing technologies.
