GE’s Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLEDs) have the ability to provide an entirely new, efficient way to light your home or business.
Scientists at GE Global Research are betting on OLEDs. Their goal? To commercialize roll-to-roll sheets of paper-thin flexible plastic, known as polymers, that illuminate if an electrical charge is applied.
OLED technology is finding its way into commercial applications like cell phones and television screens, but GE scientists are taking the technology to the next level for use in general illumination applications. We’ve already made major advancements in the brightness and quality of light and are currently addressing technical hurdles involving efficiency, life at high brightness, and low-cost device architectures.
Over the past eight years, GE has achieved multiple worldwide breakthroughs in the quality, size, brightness, and efficacy of white OLEDs and roll-to-roll manufacturing.
