Smart Grid Solutions

Researchers at GE Global Research are harnessing new technologies to reduce power consumption and save on electricity costs for businesses and homeowners.

Demand-side management is the tool we use to influence the quantity or patterns of use of energy consumed by end users. It is an area that includes many GE Global Research programs aimed at helping customers meet environmental challenges.

GE’s researchers are looking at ways to develop systems that will fully utilize the “smart” appliances, enabling a more efficient power-transmission grid.

Imagine a home with appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers, microwaves, and air conditioners, all working together to reduce the need for energy during times of peak demand. In return, consumers will pay less for their power because they’re able to manage their electricity output and usage and reduce their environmental footprint.

At the end of the day, the technology being developed by our researchers is enabling more energy-efficient, less-emissive products and services that reduce our greenhouse gas (GHG) footprint.
