Top Chef at Global Research

Lately you may have seen some GE commercials getting the word out about our healthymagination initiative– or perhaps you have downloaded and been using the Morsel application on your iPhone. One piece of this initiative that you won’t really see unless you’re a GE employee is the internal focus on providing support for employees to improve their health.

Global Research, among other GE sites, is sponsoring programming and activities to promote employee health, like healthy happy hours, reduced membership fees at the onsite fitness center, and weekly pickup volleyball games at lunch. I’m writing today to talk about one aspect of the programming that Global Research is sponsoring: healthy cooking demos led by employees. Employees have volunteered to lead cooking demonstrations of healthy recipes from their own kitchens. The demonstrations are held at lunchtime in the onsite cafeteria, and employees can both try a sample of the dish and take a copy of the recipe home with them to try on their own. A couple of weeks ago, I demonstrated the preparation of a black bean, corn, and avocado salad that seemed to be a hit. I volunteered to help with this program because I love food and cooking, and I liked the idea of building a dialogue among Global Research foodies to exchange recipes. Watch out Rachael Ray,  maybe I’ll be your new competition (in my spare time, of course!).
