Suchi Sanyal receives the GE Women in Technology award
Hi everybody, I wanted to put up a quick note to let you know about an exciting honor one of my female colleagues in Manufacturing and Materials Sciences recently received. It is also a timely honor, as we’ve just recently covered the topic of women in STEM careers with Kristen Brosnan’s blog entry “Navigating the Glass Maze.”
Suchi Sanyal, a frequent blogger here on Edison’s Desk, was selected by the GE Women’s Network Women in Technology council to receive the “Women in Engineering Award for 2011-2012.” Each year, women within GE’s industrial businesses are recognized with this award to honor women who succeed in a demanding technology career but also are proven leaders amongst their peers, recruitment, and developing other women technologists. Suchi definitely exemplifies these characteristics and has been a great ambassador for GE at the same time.
Sanjay Sondhi, Suchi’s manager said, “This award is a fitting recognition of Suchismita’s contributions over the last 10 years. Suchismita is highly passionate about technology, and has always impressed me with her eagerness to learn. What truly sets her apart is the fact that she then goes further and creates platforms for sharing these learning’s and best-practices. It is great to have her as a colleague and wish her the very best!”
What is exciting about this award is that in addition to the internal recognition, winners are also given a membership to Society of Women Engineers and invited to attend the Annual Conference for Women Engineers, hosted by SWE, in Chicago from October 13-15th. GE is actually a Corporate sponsor of SWE and we always have a big presence at these events. You can follow the conversation from the event with the hashtag #WE11 on Twitter!
