GE’s new UPS battery technology, Durathon

Arvind Tiwari

Hi everybody, I wanted to share a link with you to a video featuring one of my colleagues who sits in Niskayuna, Herman Wiegman. Herman was interviewed regarding Durathon, a new sodium-metal halide battery technology that GE developed. This video was filmed at the Uptime Symposium last week where GE Energy Storage was introducing Durathon.

GE originally developed the battery for hybrid locomotives but it is also a great fit for steady long-term battery power. Check out Herman’s overview of the sodium-metal halide technology and its advantages.

Rich Miller from DatacenterKnowledge recorded the video that you see. He was very gracious to meet wtih us after three long days in NYC. We were listening to the industry and answering questions about GE’s new Durathon battery technology. I am glad that we had a chance to share with the Uptime Institute so GE Energy Storage Technolgies can help address the needs of this industry.

Hi i’m Gianluca Fusillo, an italian researcher in biotechnology, but my interests ranges in other fieds too.

A sodium-metal halide battery is a very interesting technology!
It can solve a lot of problem related with technology still used, based on lead and lithium.
i.e.: reduced deposits of lithium in the next future

Good work!

Herman

As one of the GE partners in the Australasian Region with GE UPS systems this technolgy is highly desirable for many of the applications in public safety and other applications that we engiener in the community safety market which are also being exported to Asia, Middle east and the US. When will some information be available on these and what is the heat (environmental) tolerance, ie could we run warmer data centers and remote sites, I note you work with locomotives and vehicle technology and this would be perfect.

Excellent infromation

In 4 minutes: product specs, R&D, system integration, partnership, education and brand promotion. Well done

Hi, I am John Black. I am really interesting GE’s new NaMx battery solution. Is durathon on the market right now or GE is continues keep developing?

Thanks
